The province’s emergency health department is reportedly facing a $200 million budget shortfall. The paramedics' union has expressed that the overtime policy change, effective January 1, has placed an increased burden on front-line workers. With fewer workers available to manage the situation amid a staffing shortage, this is likely to have a negative impact on their health.
In response, the department stated that there is no efficient way to meet overtime staffing needs but assured that overtime will be available whenever and wherever necessary.
