Former Punjab Minister Anil Joshi resigned from the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Wednesday, citing disappointment over the party's sectarian politics.

In a resignation letter addressed to SAD's working president, Balwinder Singh Bhundar, Joshi slammed the party's focus on sectarian and religious issues over broader concerns affecting Punjab.

"I joined the Shiromani Akali Dal because I believed in the secular and inclusive vision of Parkash Singh Badal. However, the party now seems focused on religion and sectarian agendas, which leaves no space for my principles," he wrote.

Joshi said he felt like a "misfit" in the party, which, he claimed, rarely aligned with the vision that led him to join after leaving the BJP in 2021.
