Premier David Eby has responded to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's resignation, expressing gratitude for Trudeau's service. Eby highlighted their collaboration on key issues, such as reducing child care costs for families. He emphasized the need for unity moving forward, particularly to protect Canadian workers and businesses from U.S. tariffs.

It is noteworthy that the Liberals first formed a majority government under Trudeau’s leadership on October 19, 2015. However, in the October 2019 elections, the Liberals were reduced to a minority government, a status they currently maintain.
The government has been propped up by NDP support, but NDP leader Jagmeet Singh recently announced he would no longer back the Liberals in Parliament, stating that they no longer deserved to govern.
