Prime Minister Justin Trudeau met with King Charles at his royal residence in England today, marking the conclusion of his visit to the UK. During the meeting, they discussed matters of importance to Canada and Canadians, but no further details were released.
The meeting took place amid ongoing tensions, as King Charles, in his role as head of state of Canada, has not publicly addressed former President Trump’s threats regarding the potential merger of Canada with the US.
A Buckingham Palace spokesperson issued a statement explaining that Canada is a constitutional democracy, where the King’s role is ceremonial, and the elected government operates in his name.
It is also worth noting that an emergency meeting of European leaders was held in London to discuss support for Ukraine, which Prime Minister Trudeau attended. Canada was the only non-European country represented at the meeting.
